OOTP 9 is now available for all 32-bit Linux OSes, as long as certain dependencies are met. It may run on some 64-bit Linux as well if you have all the 32-bit compatibility packages installed correctly. We've always wanted to create a Linux version of the game, but have been stymied in the past by the lack of a decent e-distribution service. So, our friends from P.I.S.D. created their own platform independent electronic distribution system. P.I.S.D., the source of the swan logo, makes the code libraries on which OOTP is built. This new e-distribution system allows cross-platform licenses for games, and it works similar to e-License or eSellerate. If our new e-distribution system works as we expect it to, we will switch all of our games to this system next year. This will allow you to use your purchased OOTP licenses on any of the three operating systems!

For some of us, baseball is a year round obsession. Even though the Major League Baseball season ends, we find ways to fill the off-season with talk of the "Hot Stove League" and the occasional Winter League tidbit as we patiently wait for pitchers and catchers to report in February. The guys at Seamheads.com don’t want the season to end, but inevitably it has to. Or does it? Enter the Seamheads Historical Baseball League, powered by OOTP 9. The SHBL will pit 28 team owners against each other in a league consisting of All-Time Great franchises. Each owner was given the task of building a 40-man roster of players who played for their respective franchise. For example, the Athletics will feature Jimmie Foxx, Jason Giambi and Mark McGwire at first base; the Yankees will boast a bullpen anchored by Sparky Lyle, Dave Righetti, Goose Gossage, and Mariano Rivera; the Giants' starting outfield will consist of Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, and Met Ott.

What makes this league truly exciting, though, are the men behind the franchises. Running the Boston Red Sox is none other than Bill James, sabermetrics guru and Red Sox special consultant; the Pittsburgh Pirates are in the capable hands of major league pitcher Curt Schilling; the Baltimore Orioles are being run by Emmy Award winner Roy Firestone; the New York/San Francisco Giants are helmed by Sportscenter anchor John Buccigross; the Cleveland Indians' GM is two-time Sportswriter of the Year Joe Posnanski of the Kansas City Star.
