OOTP 15's Second Update is Available Now!

As our long-time fans know, each release of OOTP doesn't mean we kick back and watch baseball for the rest of the spring and summer - We're always hard at work delivering free updates that often continue through autumn.

This year is no different. We just released OOTP 15's second update (version number 15.2.8), one that sprinkles a few new features among the fixes and improvements, just like most of our updates. Here's what's new:

  • Added the option to use the team text color in the interface more often (preferences dialog)
  • Added the option to select the background effect when dialogs are open (preferences dialog)
  • Added the option to select player nationality in the create fictional player dialog
  • Improved real roster sets (need to create a new game for changes to apply)
  • Improved simulation speed
  • Improved AI in various areas
  • Fixed crashes while using 3D mode
  • Fixed FaceGen on Macs and improved FaceGen in general (i.e., shadows under visor, new sideburns, etc.)
  • Fixed problems in the player editor (projected stats, etc.)
  • Fixed issues with selecting regions during league creation
  • Fixed issues with coaches contract negotiations
  • Fixed issues with the AI not picking players in a manually scheduled free agent draft
  • Fixed several other bugs

You can download the update from our forum or by selecting "Check For Update" in the Game menu while running OOTP.

Important: This update does NOT work for you if you purchased the game through Steam or the Mac Appstore. Updates for these versions will be available in the next few days via Steam or the Mac App Store directly.

If you haven't stepped up to the plate yet, there's no better opportunity than now to find out why Gaming Age gave OOTP 15 an A- and Operation Sports said: "Out of the Park is a great series, and one that gets better every year." And you can't go wrong with Astros County's amusing real-time review of OOTP 15.

iOOTP 2014 Gets an Update Too

Like its big brother, iOOTP always gets plenty of love too. The next iOOTP Baseball 2014 update went to Apple today and should be ready for download from the iOS App Store in a few days. It features bug fixes, AI improvements, and updated Opening Day rosters.

Not only did Touch Arcade and 148 Apps both give 4 out of 5 stars to iOOT 2014, but Slide to Play said: "iOOTP is everything a baseball sim fanatic could hope for."

Tales From the Multi-Verse: Alternate American Baseball

One of two new articles we published on the site this week takes a look at Peter Cerling's amazing Alternate American Baseball, which includes the ability to download the logos and uniforms he created for the 500-plus teams he has spread across seven major leagues and 22 minor leagues. His alternate version of baseball history begins in 1871, and you can even download documents that cover the changes in each off-season as well as the year-to-year evolution of each team.

Cerling previously dabbled in other baseball sims, but he says: "I have never been even remotely satisfied with anything else since I discovered OOTP."

Soren Johnson: In the Core Audience

Meanwhile, we also spoke with Civilization IV lead designer Soren Johnson, who says: "I've always been a big baseball fan and was also a close follower of the rise of sabermetrics back in the 90s. Further, since I'm a strategy game fan in general, I've always been interested in finding a good general manager simulation. Thus, I'm definitely in the core audience for OOTP."
